Hello friends and family,
It’s July! Happy Independence day to all of my US readers.
June started out slow, and we were feeling frustrated because we didn’t see results from all of our networking. But of course, networking takes time, and patience is important. In one of my Whatsapp posts I asked for prayer. I wrote “Please pray that we meet the right people and ministries so that we can bring clean water into the most vulnerable communities and children’s homes.” It was a simple prayer request, and the very next day things started to move. After church one of the pastors approached us and asked if we would like to work together with him to offer water filters to 200 churches in our province. Many of the churches are in poor communities, and some of them also have children’s homes connected to the church. We are now in the beginning stages of this new project, but we’re hopeful and excited to see how it developed.
Later that same week we met a Brazilian couple for coffee and found out that they are the directors of a children’s home just a few kilometres from our house! On July 1st we installed a water filter for their home. Although we’ve installed filters in nearly 50 children’s homes in the past, this is our first filter installed since moving here. While Lukas and the home director installed the filter, Benjamin and I taught a hygiene lesson with games and activities. Benjamin played so well with the 22 children, and it was a wonderful feeling for me as a mama to have him there, joining in the project in his own, special little way.
We’ve also started working with the ministry Stronghold Cambodia. They provide free lunch and tutoring to low income children Monday – Friday. Lukas was able to help them get a new water filter installed so that they don’t have to buy bottled water, and I have been substitute teaching English classes for 3rd-6the grade, because two of their English teachers are in the USA for the summer. We admire their ministry and how they are helping the at-risk children and their families. I’m enjoying teaching, but also glad that it’s only for one month because it’s a little intense to do it every day .
Well, that’s about it. I also added some pictures from a Cambodian birthday party that we attended for one of our new neighbours, baptisms at church and the kids enjoying the pool after, and a couple of photos of a walk we did last Sunday afternoon as a family. Walking in the jungle is hot and exhausting, but when there’s a waterfall at the top, it’s worth it.
We’re excited that things are finally getting started with water filter installation.
Have a wonderful July, and here’s the photo link!
