Myanmar (Burma) is an isolated country with a military dictatorship. Between 2011 and 2022, Myanmar developed into a more open country with democratic approaches in politics and economy. Unfortunately, in 2022 all these developments were stopped and the military took control of the country and the people again. In many regions, there are violent conflicts between the government and various ethnic groups.
The people suffer greatly from the conflicts and the dictatorship, non more so than the children. Most of the population is very poor.
Warm Blankets has been supporting Philip and MieMie Ahone’s projects in Myanmar since 2006. Through them, we support a children’s homes in Tachileik, Yangoon and Thandwe. Vulnerable and needy children are given a caring and safe home, food and the opportunity to go to school.
Myanmar is a fascinating, beautiful and diverse country. The people are lovely and inspiring. Visits to Myanmar and the children’s homes were always very impressive and encouraging. Despite all the adverse circumstances, it is touching to see how the children can grow up in a caring and loving environment and have a chance at a better life. Unfortunately, it is currently too dangerous to visit our partner in Myanmar. However, we hope that the situation for the country and the people will improve and that visits will soon be possible again.
You can support the children in Myanmar financially by adding a note saying “Myanmar” to your donation.
